Adam works in sales and has been really into tools this year! For the home mechanic looking to expand their capacity for independent maintenance, here are Adam’s picks.
Park Tool CN-10 Cable and Housing Cutting Tool
It works really well and has absolutely changed the game for working on my bikes at home. The CN-10 does basically one thing and it does it really well, it leaves a clean cut on cables and housing which make servicing bikes at home a breeze. It feels solid and substantial in the hand which makes it really nice to use compared to some smaller cable cutters.
A full size set of Allen wrenches is another amazing improvement to my home toolkit. I've been using the Allen wrenches on my Crank Brothers M17 for years and upgrading to a proper full size set has been a really nice experience. It's much easier and faster to tighten fasteners.
Icetoolz E212 One Way Torque Wrench
It covers the 5-25 NM range which is super handy for bike assembly, especially for things like the stem, seatpost clamp, or any carbon parts
Trish is our parts lead! Trish chose some items that would help any cycle commuter stay on the road 365 days a year without hesitating for even a moment, because they know they’ve got the gear they need to ride!
The Anorak jacket is great for those that want to functionality of the rain cape but aren’t ready for the poncho life. They’re waterproof and great for on and off-bike activities.
It's easy to see that these are just nifty! Way better than throwing things loose in the bottom of a pannier.
That’s me! I chose my gift guide items for folks who want to carry (light) stuff without being locked into panniers all the time. If you’re looking for a gift that works for commuters who aren’t too techy with their ride, these are going to be perfect.
Wald 1512 Drop Top Basket Multi-Fit Stays
The Wald 137 is a pretty legendary basket. It’s simple, lightweight, works beautifully in tandem with a front rack, and pairs perfectly with a ton of different bags. My personal preference is for the (in my opinion) underrated Wald 1512 Drop Top Basket with Multi-fit stays. You don’t need a front rack to mount it on because it already comes with its own stays, which fit well with a number of different forks at a number of different lengths. I also like that it’s got more depth and more volume, to support the shapeless tote bags many Torontonians carry!
This is my add-on pick to the basket, because it’s gonna help you keep all your stuff inside of it, and also help prevent unwanted things from going inside the basket. Usually. Often when you’re parked out in the world with a basket on your bike, your fellow denizens of Toronto will see fit to pop their Timmies cups into your beautiful basket. Well, with a cargo net over top of it, hopefully they’ll be discouraged from doing so! A must-have for any basket, in my opinion!
Gabe is our Sales Lead! He’s picked something that the cyclists in your life probably don’t know exists, but if they did, they’d definitely have it on their wishlist, because it’s just such a no-brainer.
The Ortlieb Vario is the best gift you could get your bike commuter friend/foe/family member! Quickly transform your pannier into a backpack and vice versa while keeping all your valuables dry thanks to its 100% waterproof exterior. It has a 26L carrying capacity and features an interior laptop sleeve and organization pocket. Ortlieb also has you covered with a really great 5 year warranty. If you know someone who commutes to work or school by bike and wants to take some of the weight off their shoulders, this gift is a home run!
Sasha is our Service Lead, and has got a bunch of favourite items this year. These are going to be awesome items for cyclists who love taking an adventure on two wheels, an all day ride with no set destination, and the bike explorer who wants to keep it comfortable and straightforward.
I’ve previously used dry bags strapped to cargo cages for bike trips but decided to try Ortlieb Fork packs this year. Quick release/install and no loose straps is a way better setup.
After years of doubting the efficacy/need for one, I finally caved and got one to help deal with a flare up of back pain. I [rarely] notice it while riding which is a testament to its design. Combined with low pressure wide tires, it allowed me to keep riding through the recovery.
Arundel Polished Stainless Bottle Cages
Not a fan of black plastic components, these look nice.
Been using various models for years and rarely have to replace them. GA3 has been the recent favourite since they clamp on the inboard side - means no more holding on to a metal clamp while riding and the soft ends don't scuff walls when you're leaning the bike.
No issues in 4+ years of using Orange across several bikes. Not very interesting, just works.
Same as Orange Seal, been riding a Pro 4 rear hub for 5 years. No issues, just works. I make the coasting noise a bit quieter with a more liberal application of Dumonde Tech freehub grease on the pawls during periodic service.
So, that's everything we enjoyed this year!

Happy holidays!
