  •  NOW HIRING

Service Writer / Mechanic

We are hiring a service writer / mechanic with professional shop experience to join our service team at Urbane Cyclist!

As an important resource for keeping the cycling community riding, we emphasize high standards for repairs and excellent customer service. We strive to maintain a diverse and inclusive work environment that does not discriminate against race, gender identity/expression, sex, ancestry, ability, and any other basis of oppression.

This position is for a mechanic who ideally has several years of professional experience in bicycle service. A foundational understanding of bicycle componentry is required. Prior service writing experience is an asset but not strictly required as instruction will be provided on the job.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assessing bikes to diagnose problems
  • Recommending repairs
  • Writing service workorders
  • Communicating this information to customers.

Service writers also perform a wide variety of routine and more complex services on all types of bicycles. Experience with internal gear hub service, hydraulic brakes, recumbent/cargo/e-assist bikes and trikes, and wheel building is an asset.

We understand that there may be gaps in knowledge depending on experiences among different shops so we recognize that an applicant may not have all of these exact skills, we place an emphasis on having strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to learn. Certification through a recognized bicycle repair institute is a plus. This position requires an ability to clearly communicate with both colleagues and customers, to manage and meet customer expectations, and requires direct contact with customers in person, by phone, and by email. As a worker-owned co-op, there is the prospect of joining the business as a part-owner and becoming directly involved in decision-making and in your community as a whole.

Starting wages are commensurate with experience and have room to grow.

For reference, Mechanic Level 2 starts at $19.27.

To apply, send an email with your resume and a cover letter to [email protected]
