Bike theft is a problem in many communities. Locks are great, but how do you track a stolen bike? Here are several ways to use the GPS function on your phone to locate your bike.
What would you do if your bicycle was stolen? Locks are essential for bike security, but any lock can be defeated given enough time and effort. If your bike is registered with your local police department, they might be able to get it back to you, but how would you track down a stolen bicycle? Thanks to GPS technology, Urbane now stocks several bike security solutions that can provide real-time bike location info through your phone!
The first of these is the Bikebac Tracker which has versions for both iOS and Android. Using the “Find Hub” app on your Android phone, Bikebac lets you track your bike worldwide without a subscription. It can be mounted either to bottle-cage braze-ons or under your saddle using a set of Torx bolts (included); and while it is not rechargeable (it uses a coin battery), Bikebac promises a minimum of one year of use from a single battery.
Of course, you can also track your bike with a standard AirTag and your iOS phone. While many people try to jury-rig a hiding place in their bike frame, Ubane now offers a couple of different options for concealing AirTags. The Lezyne Matrix Saddle Tagger mounts to the rails under most bike saddles and provides a waterproof AirTag holder that secures with a custom anti-theft bolt.
However, saddles can also be stolen, often more easily than bikes themselves. In the wrong circumstances, the Lezyne Matrix can become a better saddle tracker than a bike tracker. Another option for concealing an AirTag on your bike is the Topeak Cage Mount AirTag Holder. Like the Knog Scout, the Topeak AirTag holder can be installed underneath a bottle-cage to create a convenient but hard-to-detect hiding place.
Similar to the Topeak AirTag holder, Lezyne now also makes a bottle cage that includes a place to hide an AirTag. Aside from its low-profile AirTag compartment, the Lezyne Matrix Air Cage is also a durable dual side-loading cage that securely fits most standard sport bottles.

While all of these devices will help you identify the location of your bike, users are encouraged to contact their local police for assistance with a stolen bike. Do not confront anyone you suspect might be a bike thief on your own.
