Hey folks,
As summer begins to wind down and the back to school season quickly approaches, we’re looking forward to having time for some really nice long rides.
With September approaching, we’re extremely excited to share that we’re about to get a new contender in our long tail cargo bike lineup, the Tern Quick Haul Long. It’s perfect for parents and caretakers looking for a way to bring young ones to school by bike! I’ve got some more details on it below, along with a link to check it out!
We have also had four (!) new members join the worker-ownership since the start of the year, and I’ve got some brief introductions for all of them below. It’s so thrilling to be a part of a growing membership team and get accustomed to the new energies that everyone is bringing.
I’m going to be putting together more frequent blog posts in the coming months, and while of course we’re going to bring you updates on new and exciting bikes, parts, and accessories, I also want to keep everyone tuned in to what we’re up to in the shop, and all our video projects over on YouTube. If you'd like to receive this in newsletter-format, you can subscribe here.
Uncomplicated and incredibly versatile, Tern’s Quick Haul Long is a compact cargo bike for families on the go. It’s similar in length to a regular bike for easy maneuvering past traffic queues, but built extra tough to safely carry 2 kids or your biggest Costco hauls. And best of all, it’s a funner, freer way to get around for you and your family without putting strain on the environment.
It’s got a max gross vehicle weight of 419 lbs, and Tern has an amazing ecosystem of passenger-and-cargo carrying accessories to transport up to two kids, a grown up, or whatever you’re looking to carry. Riding while carrying all that weight may sound intimidating, but you’re in good hands with the Quick Haul Long. Its long wheelbase combined with a low center of gravity ensures your ride remains stable even with the most ambitious haul, while a low step-through frame makes getting on and off effortless. And at under 30 kg (66 lb) including the battery, even smaller riders will find themselves capable of handling the Quick Haul Long.
It’s also easy to store and share. The stem and seatpost both adjust in seconds without tools to accommodate riders from 5’1” to 6’1”, and the whole thing can park and roll vertically to fit in tight spaces, meaning it can easily go in the elevator with you and live safely indoors. The perfect companion for the urban family!
Anyway, that’s the gist of it, but if you want to see the actual specifications of the bike, take a look over here!
You’re likely already quite familiar with most of our membership, but I wanted to write up a quick blurb to tell you a little bit about each of the new members. These views are from my perspective, and there are also photos and more detailed bios from each person’s own point of view on our website here if you would like to keep reading!
Em they/them |
Em is a service writer & mechanic with us, and a member as of April! They are a total sweetie, cat parent and long-time bike person! We’re super lucky to have them on board.

Rory he/him |
Rory is another service writer and mechanic! Two new members from the service department! His catchphrase is “cheers buddy”, and I think he says it about 80 times per day. Fun fact: Rory commutes by bike from Etobicoke every day!

Trish she/her |
Trish is our new Parts Lead. Well, I say “new”, but she’s been working with us for well over a year now! She is a dog parent to Chloe, and friend to many! It’s always a fun time when Trish is working.

Veronica |
That’s me! I am a marketing & sales pal, and am very happy to be a part of the membership team. My fun fact is that I have an 18-year-old chinchilla!

We’ve got a new Tandem Talks video over on YouTube with our first guest! If you’re not familiar, Tandem Talks is our video podcast where we ride Owen’s tandem bike and talk to people! I have been super excited about this episode coming out, since it’s our first video with a guest.
Owen took the tandem out to Hamilton to ride the Hamilton-Brantford Rail Trail with tattoo artist and friend of the shop Kat Gomboc. I’ve been a huge fan of their work since before I worked here, so it was very exciting to get the chance to hear about who they are outside of tattooing! Plus, they gave Owen a tattoo while riding the tandem!
We are also putting together a video soon on essentials for riding in the city and keeping you and your bike safe, so stay tuned for that, and subscribe to our channel to be the first to know when it drops!
Thanks for reading along!
Cheers,
- Veronica (。•̀ᴗ-)✧
