Wiarton Willie predicted an early spring, so now's the time to plan some awesome rides!
We have been quite fortunate that the weather has been overall quite mild so keep in mind...mild temperatures means dirt will stay soft therefore trails get muddy! - it's best to plan on sticking to pavement and paths for the next couple months. Also this means it's still fender weather!
Grab the bike trailer/cargo bike/kids/whoever is close by and lets get riding!
My top pick for a fun day adventure with the family would be riding out to Thommy Thomson Park (AKA the Leslie Street Spit). Its easily accessible from both the east and west via the Martin Goodman Trail and is one of the best spots for a nice leisurely ride safely away from traffic. I've been coming here as long as I can remember and its always a blast. Also such a great spot to see some unexpected wildlife, with lots of birds, rodents and even foxes making the Leslie Spit their home.
Another hidden gem that I only recently began to frequent is Cedarvale park, which is a nice ride but also a great walk. It's very central and is also home to some great resources such as tennis courts, some sports fields and a dog park (and even a splashpad for the kids if you're planning to come back in the summer!). We did a ride through here with Urbane Adventure Club late last year, but connected via Nordheimer Ravine from south of St Clair and continued up to the Kay Gardner Beltline, linked here. Its quite scenic, and is a great escape from the city while also being right in the heart of it!
I hope you take some time to explore the outdoors this month with your friends, family and loved ones (or pets!). Be safe and have fun!
