The Bassi x Urbane Montreal Cues - a lovingly assemble shop build. Timeless looks with modern functionality! Designed by BASSI in MTL assembled in YYZ by Urbane Cyclist Worker Co-op. Read more..

A handsome and practical bike - Step through frames are the perfect utilitarian choice. They are easier to mount and dismount with the bike loaded up with gear or cargo. If you like to use a rack top basket it avoids complications with having to swing your leg above a tall top bar. This build is simple and practical with a 1x9 drivetrain with V-brakes for no-nonsense reliability. Back swept bars give a nice upright riding position and an ergonomic wrist and hand position, also alleviating common discomfort in the shoulders, neck and back associated with more agressive mountain or road bike cycling postures.

DETAIL
Our beautiful Rachel step-through frame, named for the street where our flagship store is located, is back with a few improvements! Some people were using their original-run Rachels for full-on four-pannier international touring, and while the original spec was just fine for such endeavours, we decided to make some changes to make such adventures a bit easier: beefed-up tubing, more tire clearance, longer wheelbase and raised front-end for more comfort, and a few new eyelets here and there. Revised with slightly longer reach in 2023, for better comfort with swept-back handlebars.

Step-throughs also make for great cargo haulers. Those extra tubes in the rear triangle reduce flex, and stepping through a frame will almost always look better than swinging a leg over a loaded diamond frame, which can be cumbersome and isn't always elegant.

The two smaller sizes are still designed around 26" wheels, while the two larger sizes use 700c wheels. Available in Fondue brown and Monet baby blue.

Tube Type: 4130 CrMo steel (double butted top and down tubes/triple butted seat tube)
Bottom Bracket: 68mm wide, British Threaded
Seat Tube inner diameter: 27.2mm
Diagonal drop-outs
M5 eyelets on seat stays and drop-outs for rack and fenders
5M eyelets on down tube for 2 bottle cages
5M eyelets on fork for fenders, mini platform rack and lowrider rack
Forged diagonal rear drop-out, 132.5mm spacing to fit most current hubs
For V-brakes. Cantilevers aren't recommended and you probably won't find a way to set them up right. Let us know if you do, though, we'd love to see it.
Designed for road and 1x cranks up to a road triple (including Bassi Classic Triple). May not work perfectly with all types of MTB cranks.
