Bassi made this so that Bassi bikes could keep looking great with current 1x transmissions, with no chain-keeper or front derailer. The tooth pattern on the chainring will keep your chain in place, often even without a clutched rear derailer, but short chainstays or derailers with large pulleys or weaker springs may cause problems, so use a clutchless derailer at your own risk.
