dogsnpanniers

Yesterday two dogs visited the shop in their very own personal panniers!
Nice way to get around.

I've met these dogs and I

I've met these dogs and I have to say, they're the sweetest pooches in history.

Sooooooo sad.....

Anyone who stuffs their "pets" into a bag, stroller or buggy really needs their head checked, they may be sweet dogs but that is selfish and cruel behavior, would you do any of that to a human? noooooooooooooooooo, so what makes this type of behaviour acceptable? It is likely and sadly because they don't care as much for their animals mental and physical safety as they would for a human...
what happens if the cyclist falls/crashes or gets hit by a car? those poor sweet lil dogs are toast, but at least they looked cute in their panniers!!

ummm... people do carry

ummm... people do carry their kids around in bags all the time (papooses, baby bjorns, etc.), and carry their kids on bikes in apparatus not so different from panniers (trailers, kids' seats). Yeah, all of these things could be dangerous if the cyclist takes a spill, but the same is true of the baby carriers. Presumably these dogs' owners ride with extra caution when they have the dogs along for the ride, just as most parents would when they're trailing their kids. Furthermore, dogs riding in cars without seatbelts could be hurt in case of a crash, or dogs being taken for walks on leashes could be run over while crossing the street. Sure, some people get dog seats for their cars, and it might be possible to fit a dog with a bike helmet, but having known a few dogs in my time, I can confidently say that having to be buckled in, or having to wear a helmet would seem far more cruel to the dog than taking some slight risks of danger. Even babies in papooses could be hurt if the parent trips and falls. This is not selfish and cruel behaviour. This is life, and life is not (usually) lived in a bubble immune to all possible dangers. Chill out a bit.

well said! It seems that

well said! It seems that nobody can do anything these days without someone complaining. And I'm sure if the dog could talk it wouldn't be whining about the inhumanities being forced upon it (frankly it probably wouldn't be in the bag if it didn't want to be). I bet that its bike rides are the highlight of its week. People should spend more effort raising their own properly and less on what other people are doing.

Sooooooo sad..... is right!

Being stuck in a bag where you cannot move can really mess an animal up, i just just it's cruel and careless, Kids on the back or front of a bike at least have a chance because they wear helmets, dogs in bags, purses, strollers are purely for the owners satisfaction, it's cute to them, it's fashionable, they are just accessories to them sadly, just because you think the dog might be happy doesn't mean it is, kids can convey their true feelings which we can easily interpret, dogs cannot, and just becasue you are "careful" doesn't mean he car near you is, it's just irresposnsible selfish behaviour, so i have to agree with this person

Hippies.

The 'inhumane' people that 'selfishly' put their pooches in panniers probably eat meat too. In fact, they likely are members of the recognizably cruel human race, which is also solely responsible for the incredibly inconsequential blip in the environmental well-being of our planet (on a geologic time scale) that will ultimately cause us to eradicate ourselves. Terrible that they share their lives with a beloved animal associate for the time that they are on this planet, rather than leaving Fido at home alone (just like a pack animal likes to live...). That was all sarcasm, if you couldn't pick it up.
My dog loves riding in his basket, where he is restrained so that he does not jump out to chase something inappropriately. It took a year to train him (communicate to him?) that when he rides in the basket, he gets to spend time with me, goes interesting places, and sees/smells interesting things. I am sure that the dogs in question are similar, having been exposed to it gradually so as to not cause distress. He communicates very clearly whenever I put on my helmet that he wants to come along as well.
Further to which, having worked in an emergency vet clinic in a metro area for many years, I can with absolute certainty tell you that running in the park results in far more physical injuries (cuts due to glass, broken legs, eating refuse, etc.) than being put in a carrying device so as to be transported to said park.
Get off your pot you hippy, take a deep breath of metro air, and realize that 'mother earth' isn't crying when one of her creations does something unnatural.

Just a second...

I have met these dogs many times: the one on the left is Taz, and the one on the right, I forget his name, because it's a bit unusual...Both dogs are sweet, pampered and totally in LOVE with their owner, who is an intelligent, kind, creative man who adores his pooches. The dogs don't always ride in the bags-- they are usually in an open travelling box, custom-mounted to a bike that the owner shipped back at great cost from Europe, specially for his dogs. But, I have seen them in the little carrying bags, and they really don't mind being transported like that! It means they get to come along, which most dogs prefer! There is nothing cruel or abusive happening to these dogs.

Taz and his buddy are people dogs--they enjoy nothing more than being at their owner's side at all times, and riding around the town, greeting people and being included in daily events. What would really be cruel, would be to leave these obviously social dogs alone at home, to whine and howl all day while their owner was out of the house.

Please don't make unfair and unjust comments about people you've never met.
